Even though the groundhog has spoken—named the best hair salon in Bethesda by Montgomery Magazine’s Reader’s Choice, we’re bringing the springtime vibes into the salon to combat the predicted six more weeks of winter. We’ve reached out to two of our stylists, Bianca and Jen P., and our makeup artist, Linda to hear their predictions on what’s trending for this (soon-to-be) new season of sunny days, warmer temps and dreamy D.C. cherry blossoms aplenty.
GLOW UP
When it comes to makeup, only one rule applies: the more you glow, the better. While we spent 2017 heavy contouring, this spring, it’s all about the highlight on your cheekbones. It’ll give you that overall dewy, springtime glow that everyone is after these days. Bonus: we’re even spotting shiny, metallic lips to replace the current outlined, overdrawn look.
Our go-to? Smashbox Cosmetics Metallic Lips, of course.
Balance your highlighted cheekbones with our other must-have: black eyeliner. We’re seeing both the upper and lower lash line drawn on thicker than before in dramatic, winged styles. (In other words, master that cat eye before the temps go up!) We’re also seeing thicker mascara producing thicker lashes to go with your bold new eye.
And your brows? Consider thin, natural brows a thing of the past. Filling in our brows to make them appear fuller and thicker has been a crucial part of our daily routines lately—or, for a time-saving, on-trend and long-lasting alternative, head on over to our Brow & Lash Bar for a brow and lash tint service.
IT’S ALL ABOUT A MID-LENGTH CUT
Not too long, not too short—this season, it’s all about the mid-length cut. Bianca says a piecey look (about the collarbone length) is the perfect sunny season refresh. And, Jen agrees—texture is seriously trending.
STEP ASIDE, FASHION COLOR
Fashion color had a serious moment in 2017—but we’re not quite ready to let go of our bright and vibrant colors just yet. Now, we’re toning things down a bit. While color is still trending, Bianca is seeing a lot of cool-toned, ashy colors. Think of it as a natural, more toned-down blend of your favorite hue on the spectrum. Jen is also seeing lots of painted and baby-lighted styles—blended and diffused to give you that natural, highlighted finish for spring. She’s also noticing more one-length cuts, too—meaning, as it turns out, layers and bangs have seen better days.
A TREND WE CAN GET BEHIND
No matter what trends you decide to try this spring, embracing your own personal look—one that complements your unique appearance and personality—will always be in style. When you feel good, you look good—and that’s a winning combo in our books.
