Working at one of the top hair salons in Maryland

Here at Progressions, we are proud to not only be one of the top hair salons in Maryland, but also a fabulous place to work. We support the lifelong education of our team members and encourage both personal and artistic growth within our supportive work environment. But don’t take our word for it—we have the chops to back it up. We were named one of The Washington Post’s Top 5 Workplaces in the Washington D.C. area and one of Salon Today’s 200 Salons for Employee Education. Read on to learn about our values, what it’s like to work with us, and how to apply to join our team.

In this industry, the learning truly never ends. The trends change, the techniques evolve, the technology advances—and we stay on top of it all. We bring in top international talent for in-house training opportunities with our artists, weekly classes and off-site education opportunities.

We love our jobs, and we want our team members to feel the same way. Our motto is, “Take care of yourself, take care of each other, take care of this place.” And we truly live by that—our Progressions team is more like a family, and we are proud of our upbeat, positive, and supportive work environment. And just like a family, we enjoy parties together, celebrate each other’s successes, and support each other’s dreams.

Our management team is close-knit and approachable. We care about your input, feelings, suggestions, and personal and professional growth. Have a suggestion on how to make things better? We want to hear it. Have a cause you are passionate about and want to support through your work? Let’s make it happen. Whatever it is, we are here with open ears.

One of our most important values is giving back to our local and global community. To us, success means being able to make a difference and promote positive changes in the lives of those around us (and beyond). We support a variety of local and national charities, from Children’s Hospital (stay tuned for our fundraiser for them later this year!), to UMMTR, to cancer and disease research. You can read more about the causes close to our hearts here.

One of the ways we have become a top workplace in Bethesda is through offering competitive benefits to our amazing team members. Our employees enjoy:

  • Flexible scheduling—because we want you to enjoy life outside of work
  • 401(k)—because we want you to be able to comfortably plan for your future
  • Vacation days—so you can rest and re-energize
  • Paid education—so you can always grow and improve
  • Short and long term disability—so you are prepared if the unexpected happens
  • Retail training and commissions—so the sky is the limit for your potential

As the best hair salon in Bethesda, we attract top talent. One example of that talent is our Barbara Royal, a stylist who has been with us for over 34 years. She is retiring this year and we are so grateful for her service and excited to see what her future holds. We sat down with Barbara to ask about her Progressions journey.

What has been the best part of working at Progressions?
It’s been a very safe environment for me to grow and change. I’ve had constant education, long-lasting relationships, and the best of everything for my guests.

What memories stand out?
Marriages, babies, divorces, death, birthdays, holidays, parties, and all of the events and joys we have shared.

What made you stay for 34 years?
Progressions gave me the time and space to explore who I am—which helped me grow into the person I have become today. Cindy, the owner, supported me in everything I wanted to try: college, theater, film, makeup and the list goes on and on.

What are your next steps?
I am excited to live without a schedule, serve with a purpose, help others, read, swim, enjoy precious time, time with family, travel, and dream big!

We’re always looking to grow our fabulous team with talented artists, and currently we are specifically looking for newly-graduated stylists, senior stylists, a nail technician, and a full-time support staff member. If you are interested in learning more or joining our team, you can submit an online application here and we’ll be in touch with the next steps if it looks like a good fit.
